Brightman Lumber is a fifth-generation family business dedicated to offering the finest wood products and services to residential, commercial, and state agencies. We pride ourselves on our quality products and exceptional customer service.

 
 
 


  • It all started when John Brightman Jr. and Nancy Brightman purchased a parcel of land in Assonet, Massachusetts. This parcel of land would become the Brightman Lumber Company which opened in 1978. They had envisioned using this land as a central location where they could start a sawmill, lumber yard, and home base for their logging and land clearing business.

    John Jr. started working with his father and grandfather in the cedar post business.

    As the years went by he continued logging and harvesting timber with his sons throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

    Then in April of 1978 he opened up a sawmill and land clearing business in Assonet, Massachusetts.

    John Brightman Jr. passed away in 2021 at the age of 83.

  • Brightman Lumber is currently run by Ed Brightman Sr., his son Ed Brightman Jr., and Patti Brightman. They were all born and brought up in the forest products business. Their family has been in the logging and sawmill business for 5 generations.

    They truly love this business and believe that it isn’t just a job for them. It’s a way of life.
